Voters should elect Team Zanu PF for sustained economic and infrastructure development, the revolutionary party’s Politburo member Cde Omega Hungwe said yesterday.
She was addressing thousands of Zanu PF supporters at Joshua Nkomo Primary School grounds in Kambuzuma during a rally to drum up support for President Mnangagwa and the party’s candidate for Harare Central Constituency, Cde Nyasha Zenda.
Cde Hungwe added that Zanu PF was aware that some people of Kambuzuma are facing the prospect of being evicted, but assured them that no one would be evicted.
“By voting for Zanu PF, you are endorsing the commitment to improve critical infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and stimulating economic activity,” said Cde Hungwe.
“I understand that you were being threatened with eviction orders here in Kambuzuma, but I want to assure you that the matter was resolved amicably by President Mnangagwa. No one is going to be evicted, President Mnangagwa has come to your rescue.”
Cde Hungwe said since 2018, ZANU PF has placed significant emphasis on infrastructure development, targeting the road network, electricity generation, dam construction, and modernisation of border posts and airports.
According to the 2018 Zanu PF Election Manifesto, President Mnangagwa promised Zimbabweans that the country would be energy self-sufficient within five years, and that promise has been fulfilled.
This became possible following the expansion of Hwange Power Station, which saw the addition of two brand new Units, 7 and 8, each with a capacity to generate 300MW. The expansion of Hwange was made possible following a US$1,5 billion funding from China.
Load shedding is now a thing of the past since the completion of the expansion of Hwange Power Station, which came a few months after commissioning of Kariba South Hydro-power Station after its expansion that added another 300MW.
Cde Hungwe urged the electorate to vote out opposition representatives for the betterment of urban areas.
ZANU PF Harare provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa said the bulk of informal settlements where people were settled by land barons, would be regularised.
The Joshua Nkomo and Leopold Takawira Housing cooperatives in Kambuzuma will be regularised.
Said Cde Masimirembwa: “The people who are settled in Kambuzuma are not going to be evicted. I am aware that President Mnangagwa has assured the people of Zimbabwe who were irregularly settled that they will not be removed.
“We can confidently tell residents of Harare Central Constituency at Joshua Nkomo Housing Cooperative that they are not going to be removed.
“The President is seized with the matter and it has been resolved in their favour.”
Cde Masimirembwa urged Zimbabweans not to use social media to tarnish their country’s image during the election period.
“You must communicate the truth on social media. You must seek to inform the people about the good works being done by the Second Republic. We are aware that opposition members are abusing social media to tarnish the image of the country, but it will not help them in any way,” he said.
Cde Zenda said they are going to have door-to-door campaigns to sensitise the people about the achievements made by the Second Republic.
Voting for Zanu PF, said Cde Zenda, is a way of honouring the sacrifices made by the heroes and heroines who fought for the country’s independence.
“Zanu PF is known for its unwavering commitment to preserving Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and promoting nationalism.
“The party believes in empowering Zimbabweans and ensuring that the country’s resources are managed and utilised for the benefit the nation. By voting for Zanu PF, you are supporting a party that prioritises the interests of Zimbabwe and its people,” said Cde Zenda.
Several other senior party officials including Deputy Politburo Secretary for Security Cde Tendai Chirau, Harare provincial Women’s League chairperson Cde Ratidzo Mukarati, among others, attended the rally.
