Vice President and Second Secretary of ZANU PF Dr Constantino Chiwenga has paid tribute to the seven ZANLA heroes of the Chinhoyi Battle, saying their sacrifice remains an indispensable pillar of Zimbabwe’s independence.

Speaking before introducing the Guest of Honour at the 23rd National People’s Conference at Chinhoyi University of Technology, ZANU PF First Secretary and President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, Dr Chiwenga said the party gathered in Chinhoyi, a town deeply connected to the liberation struggle.

“The Chinhoyi Battle of 28 April 1966 marked a turning point in igniting the armed struggle against colonial rule,” he said.

“With boundless pride and solemn reverence, we remember the seven ZANLA heroes who fought with fearless distinction and paid the ultimate price just a few kilometres from this venue. Their sacrifice was, and remains, an indispensable pillar of Zimbabwe’s independence, freedom and sovereignty.”

Dr Chiwenga said when the party convened in Mutare last year, it reflected on the values that sustained the liberation struggle, including unity, discipline, patriotism, integrity, commitment and service.

He said this year’s theme, “From Resolutions to Results: Consolidating Economic Development and Deepening Empowerment Towards Vision 2030,” calls upon party members to move beyond deliberation to tangible outcomes.

“This theme calls upon us to move beyond deliberation and declarations to tangible, measurable and transformative outcomes that improve the lives of our people,” he said.
