VP Mohadi calls for restoration of Matabeleland South’s economic glory

VICE-PRESIDENT Kembo Mohadi has called on stakeholders from across all sectors of the economy in Matabeleland South to work towards restoring the province to its former glory as a major contributor to the country’s economy through livestock production.

Cattle farming is the economic mainstay in the semi-arid Matabeleland region largely characterised by low rainfall.

Speaking recently during a Zanu-PF Matabeleland South Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) meeting and ground-breaking ceremony for the ruling party’s Matabeleland South provincial offices in Gwanda, VP Mohadi said Matabeleland South is renowned for its vast natural resources yet it remained poor.

He tasked the party leadership to come up with a development plan, which will be used to spearhead development.

“Matabeleland South is renowned for natural resources such as minerals, good grasses for livestock production and mopane worms, among others. We were once one of the best provinces in terms of cattle production,” said VP Mohadi.

“Despite all these resources, the province remains poor. Let’s sit down and figure out what is it that makes us the least developed when we have the resources required for us to be rich. Let’s work together as a province so that we can restore our province to its original state.”

VP Mohadi said as part of their development strategy the Zanu-PF provincial leadership has to ensure that more youths are incorporated in the party structures. He said youths have a crucial role to play in developing the nation.

The Vice President said elders should groom young people so that they get aligned to the party’s ideological thrust.

“The wisdom of the elderly coupled with the craftiness of young people can bring about the much-needed development in the province. His Excellency, President Mnangagwa has taken the lead in the involvement of youths as we have 14 young people in Cabinet out of an establishment of 24,” he said.

“The young people are well versed with technology and they are energetic, which is what we need in this modern world. Allow the young people to be at the forefront but ensure that you instil our ideological thrust.

“We need them to carry the ideological thrust forward. Young people, once you are given the opportunity, remember that you will always need the wisdom of those who have gone before you.”

VP Mohadi urged the youths to be part of the country’s development agenda and desist from drug and substance abuse.

“Youths have to desist from engaging in drug and substance abuse as this is depriving the country of its valuable human capital. Stakeholders from the province should unite and desist from sabotaging development based on political basis and tribal issues,” he said.

“As the Second Republic, we expect all stakeholders including Government departments, development partners and various institutions to support the country’s development agenda.” — @DubeMatutu
