VP Nkomo consoles Nhloko, Lesabe families

ACTING President John Landa Nkomo has sent condolence messages to the Nhloko and Lesabe families following the death of former Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army intelligence chief Cde Cornius Nhloko and former ZanuPF Politburo Member Mrs Thenjiwe Lesabe.
Cde Nhloko died on Wednesday last week and was declared a national hero while Mrs Lesabe who died last Friday has been accorded a Stateassisted funeral.
The Acting President said Cde Nhloko would be remembered for his unwavering patriotism and upholding of the values that define Zimbabweans.
“The Comrade has been a true, tried and tested cadre who played a pivotal role during the liberation of this country and was also very instrumental in upholding the gains of our hard earned independence.
“We were robbed of a gallant son of the soil,” said Acting President Nkomo.
He said those who knew Cde Nhloko and worked with him during the liberation struggle and after independence know that the country has lost a strategist par excellence.
“May the bereaved family, derive solace in knowing that we are mourning with them during this time they are going through a rough patch in their lives.
“I pray that the soul of Cde Cornius Nhloko rest in eternal peace,” said the Acting President.
Cde Nkomo also paid tribute to Mrs Lesabe, who will be buried at the family farm in Fort Rixon on Sa turday.
The Acting President said, as the nation mourns her death, they took time to reflect with nostalgia and recognise the role played by such brave women in the prosecution of the liberation struggle.
“It is because of such women, that Zimbabwe attained its independence and freedom from the shackles          and yoke of our erstwhile colonial  masters.
“Cde Thenjiwe Lesabe will be remembered for her charisma and bravado and upholding principles entrenching the gains of our independence.
“For some of us who had the privilege of closely working with her during the time of war of liberation and in the aftermath, as comrade in arms in both the party and Government, we would know with certainty the chasm created by her untimely death,” he said.
Cde Nhloko, whose Chimurenga name was Cde Victor Mlambo, died in a horrific fire incident at his rural home in Silobela.
He will be buried at his rural home in Silobela today at the request of his family.
