VUYO Brown is over the moon after being nominated for the 22nd edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama).
The songstress is competing for the Outstanding Female Musician award against Feli Nandi and Janet Manyowa.
Vuyo Brown shared her excitement with Chronicle Showbiz, saying that the nomination is a sign of her success in the past year.
“Honestly, I still can’t believe it. It’s such a huge encouragement. The nomination is a win for me.
“Last year I had music releases that got local, national and regional/pan-African radio and TV airplay; like East Coast Radio, MTV Base and Duma FM to name a few. I also got to be on stages like the Stanbic Jacaranda Music Festival.
“My music has become recognised more nationally and regionally over the years. I’d like to think maybe this is just a buildup and result of that,” she said.

Vuyo Brown also said she is proud to represent female musicians from Matabeleland, as she is one of the few who got a Nama nomination this year.
“As a female musician from this side of the country, I feel that win, that gong, would be the acknowledgement of the contribution and value we bring to the national music, arts/entertainment sector.
“Representation is important, and I feel the nominations also did just that for musicians from Matabeleland,” she said. —@mthabisi_mthire
