CAPS United forward Ishmael Wadi dedicated their 2-1 league victory over Dynamos at Rufaro on Sunday to the club fans.

He headed home in the 10th minute to give CAPS United the lead before Dynamos equalised in the second half through Jairos Kasondo’s penalty, but Caps United replied immediately as Kudzai Chigwida converted from the spot kick to seal the win.

Wadi was particularly unplayable as CAPS United threatened to humiliate their rivals.

“This victory is not about me,” Wadi said. “It is about the fans. It’s about their right to paint Harare green. I dedicate this win to CAPS United fans all over Zimbabwe.

“The result keeps Caps United top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League standings with 25 points. Despite the tense derby victory, Wadi is not giving much on the title talk.

“It’s good to be 11 weeks on top. But we have 23 games left. We must remain grounded.”

Wadi was billed to launch a fierce battle against DeMbare left-back Christopher Netty. But he did not confine himself to one side.

Instead, he troubled all the fullbacks and even left the central defenders for dead as he cut into the inside.

“My technical team and teammates encourage me to rely on my speed, taking on defenders, to help the team win.”

CAPS United have been named as one of the clubs paying the highest winning bonuses.

But Wadi dismissed that as not the source of their strength, downplaying the role of the bonuses.

“A bonus is a reward, not the main motivation. You play the game first, then you get the bonus.

“It doesn’t make sense to focus on it before the work is done,” he said.
