Songstress and actress Lee McHoney, who became a household name for her role as Mai Noku in the hit online drama series Wadiwa Wepa Moyo, is making a return to the music scene with a new single set for release on October 20.
The yet-to-be-titled track, which features Afro-pop sensation Msiz’kay, marks Lee McHoney’s comeback after more than a year since her last release, Meet Again.
Lee McHoney told Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub that the new single is personal, sharing her journey of healing and strength after a difficult time.
“The song is an alternative Afro-pop track inspired by my life story. I had to take a break from music after suffering a miscarriage, and this song represents me picking myself up and finding strength again,” she said.
Lee McHoney’s break from music coincided with the Covid-19 lockdown, a period that also saw her successfully venture into acting.
Reflecting on the hiatus, she shared: “When Covid-19 happened, everything changed. I took on new responsibilities. I had a baby and lost her at birth. The following year, I had my son, and ever since, I’ve been on a journey to rediscover myself.”
The artiste also hinted at exciting plans beyond the single’s release, including more collaborations and live performances in the near future. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
