Mark 10 vs 27; “Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” We have all been told stories about people who have experienced miracles and I suppose we have all had our fair share of moments where we have testified to a greater hand being at play in our lives.
We have encountered, with some level of doubt, people who have told the most extraordinary stories that sometimes we are not too sure whether to believe them or not. We shake our heads and smile, choosing to push these stories to the back of our minds to enable us to run from the prospect of dwelling on them for too long, lest they confuse us even more.
A few days ago someone asked to see me, they had made several unsuccessful attempts to see me for a while. Finally we met and as our discussion progressed they began to tell me their life story.
I listened with interest as they spoke with passion and intimacy about how at some stage they had been diagnosed with a terminal illness, the subsequent stay in hospital and the extraordinary event that occurred.
“I was taken to hospital, when I arrived an X-ray was taken, the doctor was astounded at what he saw and exclaimed that the images he was seeing on that black and white film were the images of a person who should be dead. While I was going through my tribulation, one of the nurses, despite my bed-ridden and frail state, came to me and asked that I pray for them.
“I could not understand what this nurse had possibly seen in me. Then I had the strangest of dreams, a man was walking with me, I could not quite see who he was, but he took me to a place where a fresh grave had just been prepared and men were filling it with sand to mark the end of a burial.
“At that stage I woke up and from that minute on I knew I would not die, my health began to improve, I became stronger to the point where I was discharged and each time the doctors would perform tests they could not see the cells that were slowly eating me up. It was as if I had been given a new lease on life.”
We all sometimes find ourselves in hopeless situations that appear as if the only end in sight is catastrophic. The truth is God can do beyond what the mind can imagine.
