My uncle told me something interesting the other day, he said as he was reflecting on his life he realised that the people he had helped in life had turned out to be his greatest disappointments, they had repaid him with betrayal, disloyalty and hurt.
As I pondered on what he had said I noticed a similar trend, we are sometimes called to help, we are granted the grace to be blessings to others, but often times our greatest acts of kindness can become set-ups for heartache.
The Bible says, “Who knows the heart of a man?” I guess ultimately no one really does. The smiles, the warmth and the hugs can sometimes be a mask used to conceal deep hidden evil intentions.
One can never understand what causes malice, what ferments jealousy and what drives people to turn against each other and do the unthinkable.
It is written that a spirit came over Saul, a deep dark moment in which his character transformed and thereon he was possessed by terrible thoughts so much that on one occasion he even tried to kill David by throwing a spear at him.
During those moments the soothing effect of music delightfully delivered by David would calm him down, it was as if the music spoke the language of heaven and through it, his senses would be restored.
In our own lives we have so many “Sauls”, people you have shown kindness to, but who then go out of their way to cause you harm or pull you down. There will always be people like that who will not respond to love positively.
The natural tendency is to want to inflict as much pain to the individual as they have caused you, but the unspoken word is that the Lord has placed all these individuals in your life for a reason, that at your moment of agony you will turn to Him.
Some issues are best left to the Maker to address, you have to simply wash your hands and say “Lord this is beyond me I put this situation in your hands, deliver me.”
Through the passage of time, like David, your foes will begin to become weaker to a point where they become irrelevant. The Lord, in His time, will grant you victory.
Through all his moments of strife David never stopped praying or seeking the Lord; whether he was hiding in a cave, running through the desert or hiding in the cleft of a rock he remained hopeful that the Lord would deliver him and He did.
Are there people who have let you down, hurt you, thrown out your love, been disloyal and betrayed you? Take it to the Lord in prayer, He will make it right.
