Walking in Spirit: Finding a Balance

Ecclesiastes 3:1; “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

Activity is something we all yearn for, we all want to have the opportunity to be involved in the things we like and occasionally, the things we don’t like.

Not many people know that the body was created in such a way that it actually requires a break at regular intervals, to recharge, renew and start again.

Imagine running a marathon every day, as much as the challenge of doing it may appear exciting at first, as the days wear on your body will start to detest the activity, it could be an ache here and a pain there, but ultimately you will break down.

Our lives are somewhat like that, we must pace out all the activities we are involved in. It is easy to whole-heartedly immerse yourself in activity, but before long it will start to eat at you.

In economics, they refer to the law of diminishing returns, where over time your return becomes less and lesser. Your body can be like that when it starts to deliver a little less than its potential.

I always marvel at the gift of life and all that it comes with, our responsibility lies in ensuring that we lead a balanced life and balance is one of the most difficult things to achieve. Like all good machines that have a set of protocols for optimum use, so are our bodies.

You have to ensure that you get your fair dose of sleep, activity and output.

The Lord intended for you to be productive, that you have a purpose. In trying to pursue this you must ensure that the essentials around you are taken care of.

So many people suffer the mental strain of being burnt out where they just cannot do anymore; they will have reached the peak of their output and are not able to go on anymore, because they overdid it.

A perfect balance of movement and inactivity must be established and applied to one’s day to day life.

Moses was told by his father-in-law to find others to assist with his work.

His father-in- law had realised that the responsibilities on his shoulders were too much and if he continued at the same pace he would fail.

Ask the Lord to help you find the best combination for you to run this marathon that is life, remembering that at all times He and He alone controls the fate of things today and things to come.

Be blessed
