Walking in Spirit: God’s time

Hebrews 12:28; “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”

A few weeks ago a fellow congregant sent a global note about attending church on time. I did not think much of it until it started to eat at me, that for a very long time I had consistently been late for church. If anything, I would look forward to the experience ,but I would still be late.

I then set my mind to try and gain an understanding of the cause of that. It got my mind thinking, that if I was invited to a meeting by someone I considered important, would I be late? What would my attitude towards that meeting be?

I realised that I would probably be there fifteen minutes early to make a good impression and ensure that I do not miss out on a once in a lifetime opportunity. We are never late for the things we value or that hold some form of benefit to us. In fact, we make sure we are there way before the stipulated time.

Over time, many of us have become guilty of taking the issues that concern our Maker for granted, myself included. The business of worship and fellowship is an integral part of the spiritual experience that aims to align our deviant selves with our Maker.

We are continuously petitioning the Lord with endless prayers that are loaded with requests; every second prayer is a request. But what does the Lord request of us that forms the basis of the covenant between us? The Lord simply says “Love me with all your heart and soul” and, through our singular devotion to Him, He assures us that He will always be there for us.

We have lost the essence of reverence, equating the time we spend with the Lord to the time we spend on social functions and meetings we engage in. The time we devote to meeting with our Maker must be the most important appointment we have in our day-to-day calendars especially on the one day in the week that we dedicate to fellowship.

It is easy to ask of Him, but it is very difficult to play our part by doing the simple things that play a significant role in opening up the communication channels to Heaven, the things that open up the flood gates of blessings.

Be blessed.
