Walking in Spirit: Graduating in faith

Colossians 2 vs 6-7; “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”

Someone sent me a couple of beautiful pictures of a graduation ceremony the other day. Pictures can say a thousand words and tell a story. Everyone looked so happy, more so the graduate. It was a moment of celebration.

What’s interesting is that the photographs show the end result; they don’t show the sleepless nights or the moments of strain and the difficult assignments and exams that the graduate struggled through.

The end is what we see: happy faces, dotting parents, aunts and uncles all glowing with pride and the expectation of tomorrow. Where the student may have struggled with fees and all sorts of challenges along the way, on this one day all is swept away. What is now before us is an accomplished student who has been announced to the world.

Life is sometimes like that, it plays out in such a way that what we see does not quite tell the story of how a person got to where they are. Everybody has a story to tell, a story of some hardship or the other, a set of triumphs to share, whether big or small. Nevertheless we can emphatically conclude that we all deal with a lot of things, both good and bad. It’s often easier to dwell on the bad and not share our triumphs.

As I thought about the process of graduation, I realised that somehow we are all on a journey where everything we endure and encounter is a lesson. Most people fail to graduate from the tests that are presented to them, they keep repeating the same mistakes and never graduate from their infancy.

Paul says “when I was a child I behaved as one and when I was grown I behaved like an adult.” Our Christian journey includes graduating, it’s about learning life’s lessons as presented. We have to learn from seeing how God deals with our challenges so that when a similar situation arises we deal with it accordingly rather than make the same mistake that got us in that position.

Let’s all pray a prayer of faith that will help us grow in our faith such that whenever we feel challenged, instead of crying or being depressed; we confidently approach His throne knowing that He will ensure our victory, regardless of the drama that may have accompanied our journey. God is in control. Let’s all pray that we become graduates of faith, it is possible. Be blessed.
