Proverbs 17:22; “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones”
We live in a society where we always find fault and always complaining about this thing or the other, we seemingly are unhappy about everything. A dear friend of mine sent me an email about someone she knows, the story is below.
“I know a lady who exudes such joy and glows with the glory of God. I was shocked to learn that in her modest apartment, she has and looks after her disabled helpless daughter who is in her mid-twenties now. She has to feed, clothe, bathe and change her diapers every single day. She has been doing it alone ever since the husband left her because he just couldn’t cope or accept such a disabled child.”
As I read the story above I did a roll call of as many people as I could recall who are in better circumstances than the lady mentioned, but even within the beautiful, but not so perfect settings, I could almost hear their endless complaints about how life has not been fair and how they have been dealt an unkind hand.
Just before I wrote this article someone was telling me about someone they know who has had such a difficult life and how it’s just not right that they have had to endure so much.
The truth, however, is that happiness, contentment, gratitude and forgiveness, are all a matter of choice! We all live in this fallen world with so much misery all around us.
It is up to us to focus on the beautiful things that are around us like the sunset, the flowers, friends, family and all the endless delights that make up our world.
You can also choose to solely focus on the problems and trials that we are faced with daily, it’s your choice.
The choices we make, what we decide to focus on and how we decide to approach our problems or circumstances will determine where we will go.
We, however, cannot do it by ourselves, we need to ask the Lord to provide His unending grace and love for us. We were never meant to walk alone, the Lord is always available to walk with us, shield us, comfort us and grow us into the people he has destined us to be.
Be blessed.
