They also handed a solidarity message to Governor and Resident Minister Faber Chidarikire. The message, which highlighted challenges they are facing, was for onward transmission to President Mugabe. Addressing the placard-waving group of around 400 war collaborators from the province’s seven districts, Cde Chidarikire said the cadres worked tirelessly during the war of liberation and they had remained steadfast in the revolution for economic emancipation after independence.
“We waged the war against the settler regime as a united force. We must remain united as we wage other battles as an independent country. The need for unity cannot be over-emphasised,” he said.
Mashonaland West provincial Zimbabwe War Collaborators Association chairperson Cde Betty Biri said collaborators were fully behind the empowerment programme aimed at improving the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans.
“The war collaborators of Mashonaland West province wish to convey our message of solidarity with you (President Mugabe) in your noble endeavours to uplift and improve the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans, including war collaborators and their families,” she said.
