THE Zimbabwe National Liberation War Collaborators Association has declared unwavering support for Zanu PF and endorsing the extension of President Mnangagwa’s term beyond 2028.
At a rally attended by over 10 000 war collaborators at Dzokerai Mabhunu Great Hall in Harare yesterday, ZILWACO national chairman Cde Pupurai Togarepi, who also serves as the Zanu PF Chief Whip in Parliament, declared their steadfast loyalty to the party and its legacy.
“We, as ZILWACO, are an affiliate of Zanu PF. We are the vanguard of the party, and we don’t need to be paid to support it, it’s in our DNA,” he said.
“We are the rightful custodians of the party, and we will carry forward the legacy of the liberation struggle.
“We are waiting for the party’s signal and are ready to support Resolution Number One. We will never be sellouts; we stand firmly behind President Mnangagwa.”
Cde Togarepi said the resolution to support President Mnangagwa stems not just from the party, but also from the voices of the people.
“The issue of 2030 was not enforced by President Mnangagwa, but it comes from people. Hence, President Mnangagwa has no reason to defy the resolutions made by the people.
“It’s a consensus of the majority,” he added.
As the Chief Whip, Cde Togarepi said Parliament is waiting for the party’s direction to ensure that Resolution Number One is implemented effectively. He announced that they are conducting rallies across provinces to solidify support for Vision 2030 and reinforce Resolution Number One.
Cde Togarepi said the primary objective of the gathering was to reaffirm commitment to a national agenda focused on economic prosperity and development.
He confirmed that the Government will soon gazette the list of vetted war collaborators, enabling them to access their gratuities.
“We have completed preparing our budget as an association, which will be incorporated into the National Budget. We have been promised by the Minister of War Veterans, Monica Mavhunga, that the list of vetted war collaborators will be gazetted before the end of this month,” he said.
With 140 000 war collaborators already vetted, Cde Togarepi urged those still outstanding to compile their names and submit them for consideration.
He emphasised that the vetting process is ongoing, affirming ZILWACO’s commitment to adhere to party values and support President Mnangagwa’s leadership.
The meeting included prominent figures such as Zanu PF Harare provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa, Politburo member Cde Omega Hungwe, Cde Babra Mwale from Harare provincial Women’s League, Central Committee members and war veterans.
