THE Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association Bulawayo province has re-scheduled its crunch meeting that had been slated for tomorrow to Sunday following the death of national hero Cde Sikhanyiso Ndlovu. Initial plans by the war veterans to hold the potentially explosive meeting tomorrow were superseded by the veteran politician’s death and expected burial at the National Heroes Acre in Harare on the same day.
The ex-combatants Bulawayo provincial deputy information and publicity secretary, Cde Norman Mkandla announced the change of date for the crucial meeting. “We have changed the date of our meeting because we all have to go and bury our national hero Cde Sikhanyiso Ndlovu. We believe all war veterans will go and bury our hero that is why we have changed the date,” said Cde Mkandla. He said the meeting will start at 1PM.
Cde Mkandla said the meeting’s venue, the association’s provincial headquarters in Entumbane suburb, remains unchanged. He said the meeting’s agenda also remains unchanged: introduction of the newly elected executive members as well as consideration of issues affecting war veterans in the province.
“We are still expecting all Bulawayo war veterans to come and attend the meeting as issues that will be discussed concern them as a whole. They are expected to come in large numbers so that they address issues affecting them being discussed and so that they say their voices,” said Cde Mkandla.
A group of war veterans led by a member of the war veterans’ council of elders, Cde George Mlala last week accused the new executive of aligning itself with ousted former national chairman Jabulani Sibanda. The war veterans petitioned the association’s national chairperson Cde Chris Mutsvangwa for the executive to step down, but he dismissed their demands.
