High Court Judge Pisirayi Kwenda has ordered members of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) to vacate Karoi Country Club after Norton legislator Temba Mliswa filed an application.
The war vets had allegedly invaded and evicted Mliswa’s workers from Karoi Country Club on November 29.
Mliswa’s lawyer Kadzere, Hungwe and Mandevere Legal Practitioners confirmed the development last Friday.
“Our client was granted the interim relief order this Thursday (last week) by Justice Kwenda and the war vets were ordered off the club,” he said. “Our partner Musindo Hungwe appeared on his behalf.”
In his application, Mliswa — who is the chairman of the club — cited Cdes Joseph Serima Manjengwe, Alick Chingodza, Life Magedi and Bridget Chingodza as respondents.
He argued that the war veterans on November 29 this year allegedly took the law into their own hands by forcibly occupying the premises, changed locks and evicted his workers without a court order.
They indicated that the war veterans’ association had been given a permit by Karoi Town Council to use the club for youth projects, but no proof of such authority was exhibited to any of the country club’s employees who were present.
Mliswa, who had been running the club since 2013, wanted a court order for the youths to vacate the premises and be banned from interfering with the running of the club.
He had argued that the case be treated urgently on the grounds that he and his workers had been evicted from the club premises and their property was still on the premises amidst threats that it would be destroyed.
