War vets ready for elections

War veterans are now ready to campaign for the revolutionary party, Zanu PF, after a week of exchanging ideas during a leadership orientation workshop for members of the War Veterans League, Secretary for Welfare Services for War Veterans, War Collaborators, Ex-Political Prisoners, Detainees and Restrictees, Cde Douglas Mahiya has said.

The War Veterans League formally became part of Zanu PF last year after its inaugural conference held in Harare.

Speaking in Harare last Friday at the conclusion of the leadership orientation workshop, Cde Mahiya said: “As for war veterans, we have been revived and we have been sharpening for the past week, resharpening skills in order to approach the 2023 elections with the right political material to unite the people of Zimbabwe against the Americans, the British and the opposition parties.”

At the conclusion of their conference last year, President Mnangagwa challenged the war veterans to go back to their areas and launch a vigorous campaign for Zanu PF so that it resoundingly wins the 2023 harmonised elections.

Cde Mahiya said as a Zanu PF wing, they were charged with the responsibility of maintaining the revolutionary principles and fundamentals.

“When we became a (Zanu PF) League, the duty is to dispense necessary knowledge to unite the people of Zimbabwe,” he said.

“So really, it becomes necessary that the War Vetterans League was constituted.

“We had our own conference, which had among other things, the need to bring the past into the contemporary in order for the people of Zimbabwe to have a political identity and to be proud of what Zimbabwe had achieved against the colonisers.”

With a few months before the elections, it is now all systems go for Zanu PF, and the party is confident it will steamroll past the Western sponsored CCC, which has dismally failed to demonstrate its ability to lead given the deteriorating service delivery in urban areas it leads.
