Zanu-PF National Secretary for War Veterans, War Collaborators, ex-Detainees and Restrictees Cde Victor Matemadanda has hailed First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa for relinquishing her Chirumanzu-Zibagwe seat.
The First Lady relinquished her seat on Saturday at a rally in Mvuma. In an interview on Saturday, Cde Matemadanda said war veterans welcome the move as it gives Amai Mnangagwa more time to deal with national issues.
“Amai Mnangagwa has just shown that she is a person of high moral, integrity and respect by relinquishing her seat to focus on several other issues as the First Lady,” he said. Cde Matemadanda said the First Lady had led by example.
“That is the problem we had with former First Lady (Grace Mugabe) who infiltrated the party, wanted to get a parliamentary seat what for? Amai Mnangagwa has led the way and as war veterans we welcome the move,” he said.
“We were once fired from the party together with honourable (Chris) Mutsvangwa and Mahiya (Douglas) for trying to tell the former First Lady (Grace Mugabe) to leave politics. Today we have a First Lady who led by example.” Cde Matemadanda said war veterans were fully behind President Mnangagwa.
“As war veterans we have pledged our support to Cde Mnangagwa who have already shown his capability to take Zimbabwe to the Promised Land,” he said. Cde Matemadanda said the war veterans also support President Mnangagwa’s call for peaceful elections.
“The President is very clear that he wants a free and fair election, therefore, as war veterans we are taking his message to the people that we should have a free and fair election,” he said. The country goes for elections in four months time.
