THE Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWA) has unveiled new membership cards that it said would help to distinguish genuine members eligible to vote to choose office bearers from undesirables.
Addressing members of the association during a meeting held at their offices in Entumbane suburb yesterday, Bulawayo provincial chairman Cde Cephas Ncube said the new membership card was endorsed recently by the ZNLWA national executive.
“The agenda of our meeting today is to brief you on a number of issues that were discussed during our recently held national executive meeting in Masvingo. One of the issues that were discussed at the national executive meeting in Masvingo relates to the new membership card for the association.
“Each of the 10 provinces has got the serialised membership cards for security reasons,” he said.
Cde Ncube said the ZNLWA membership included war collaborators, trained and untrained liberation war cadres who are cardholders of the association’s new card.
“We have in the past seen some people purporting to be members of our association thus the association has come up with the new membership card so that genuine members of the association can be positively identified.
“In line with the ZNLWA constitution, only cardholders of the new membership card can participate in our elections. What it also means is that if you are not a cardholder, you are not part of the association,” he said.
The new membership cards are accessible at the association’s district offices across the country.
Cde Ncube said during their recent national executive meeting in Masvingo other issues discussed were related to the political situation, war veterans’ welfare and the association’s constitution. “On the political situation, let me not dwell on national issues because I might distort the information,” he said.
Cde Ncube said the need to improve the welfare of war veterans was also noted during the meeting in Masvingo and the leadership agreed to work towards improving the war veterans’ welfare.
