WARD 2 residents on Sunday held a pre-budget consultative and service delivery meeting where they were updated on outstanding debts owed to the City of Harare and the rollout of smart water meters.
City of Harare senior accountant Mr Terence Chigodora told residents that Cranborne owed the council ZWG116.89 million, while Queensdale owed ZWG101.12 million.
He said Arcadia had an outstanding debt of ZWG40.76 million, while Braeside owed ZWG17.52 million.
He said 75 000 smart water meters have been installed across 20 areas.
“Areas covered are Mabelreign, Waterfalls, Braeside, Marlborough, Sunningdale, Hillside, Kuwadzana, Dzivarasekwa, Avondale, Queensdale, Madokero, Rydale Ridge Park, Kambuzuma, Wilmington Park, Avenues, Cranborne, Aspindale, Milton Park, Cold Comfort and Arcadia,” he said.
Mr Chigodora said the city and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development carried out road patching on Boshoff Road, Seke Road, Chiremba Road, Cripps Road, Kelvin Road South and Dieppe junction.
He said water pipe replacement was carried out on Boshoff Road, Strand/Ndlela Way and Sturges, Arcadia, Seke Road at Telecel, Malgast/Chummy Pitch, Biddulph/Chiremba and Blatherwick.
“Road works covered are Arcadia, Braeside, Cranborne, Eastlea, Hillside and Msasa,” said Mr Chigodora.
He said drain and stormwater works were carried out, as well as three pedestrian crossings, four road signs, five metres of road markings and 86m3 of water and sewer repair trenches were backfilled.
Mr Chigodora said patching and drainage were carried out on Alamein, Culverwell, Joshua Nkomo, Steward and Thorncroft roads in Arcadia.
He said patching and drainage were also carried out on Cranborne roads, namely Chiremba, Munro and Rattry.
Mr Chigodora said drainage maintenance was carried out on ED Mnangagwa and McChlery in Eastlea, while patching and drainage maintenance was carried out on Hillside Road in Hillside.
Residents who attended the meeting requested street lights on Seke Road, traffic lights on Chiremba Road and Horatio, sewer repairs in Arcadia, traffic lights near Pick n Pay (Chiremba Road) and public toilets at Queensdale shopping centre.
They also requested storm drain covers and weight prohibition signs around the ward.
