SUNNINGDALE Member of Parliament Maureen Kademaunga of CCC was yesterday issued with a warrant of arrest after she defaulted a court hearing.

Kademaunga is being jointly charged with CCC Councillor Clayd Mashozhera, Noel Munhuwei and Daudi Jessub on three counts of attempted murder and one count of malicious damage to property.

Kademaunga’s lawyer Mr Harrison Nkomo told the court that his client was sick after having travelled from Victoria Falls where she was attending to Parliamentary business, but he did not tender any supporting evidence.

Harare regional magistrate Mrs Estere Chivasa issued the warrant of arrest and then adjourned the trial to September 16.

Prosecutor Ms Heather Muwokoto alleged that the four accused persons, together with accomplices who are still at large, connived to severely assault three Zanu PF members: aspiring councillor Cyril Nyauchi, Zanu PF Harare Provincial committee member Artwell Marwa (64) and party member Spencer Mudarikwa.

The three were attacked at the corner of Boshoff and Seke Roads, near Metro Peech wholesalers at around 11pm when coming back from distributing food to ZANU PF agents at polling stations. The four CCC members are accused of being part of a gang that blocked a vehicle carrying the three Zanu PF members.

The gang were allegedly driving a white Toyota Noah registration number ADI 6448, a pearl Toyota Mark X registration AFG 4447, a white Commuter Omnibus, a Honda Fit and other two cars. They allegedly smashed the window pane of the Toyota Spacio vehicle which the Zanu PF members were driving.

Nyauchi suffered severe injuries as did his colleagues. Their vehicle was also severely burnt at the scene.
