Warrant of arrest for suspected fondler

A 52-year old Chitungwiza man who allegedly fondled a female passenger’s back in a commuter omnibus was issued with a warrant of arrest after he failed to attend court for his trial. Waveson Madhiri, of Zengeza 2, denied indecent assault charges when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate, Ms Jessy Kufa. He was remanded to last Friday for trial, but failed to attend court.

This led prosecutor Mr Innocent Tizirai to ask the court to issue him with an arrest warrant.

Allegations against Madhiri arose on July 26 when he boarded a commuter omnibus from Makoni Shopping Centre.

The court heard that Jacqueline Bangure (35) of St Mary’s also boarded the same bus intending to go home.

It is alleged the commuter omnibus took long to depart, forcing Bangure to look for alternative transport. Bangure asked Madhiri who was blocking her way to give her room as she wanted to disembark. Madhiri allegedly moved aside but fondled her back as she walked past.

Bangure reported the abuse at Chitungwiza Police Station leading to Madhiri arrest.
