SHEPARD SEVERA (34), who reportedly killed his friend and dumped his body in a gravel pit in Warren Park, Harare, has appeared in court on murder charges.

Severa appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Ruth Moyo, who advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Mr Takudzwa Jambawu alleged that on May 19, 2026, at around 3.31am, Severa lured the now deceased, Brian Nandana (28), to Pfukwa Shopping Centre in Warren Park D under the pretext that he wanted to give him some money.

The court heard that Severa entered Nandana’s vehicle and strangled him before cutting his throat with a knife.

After killing him, Severa is said to have driven to Warren Park Hills, where he concealed the body in a gravel pit and covered it with stones.

As he returned to where the vehicle had been parked, Severa reportedly encountered Ronnie Tumbare and security guards who were guarding earth-moving equipment nearby, prompting him to flee from the scene.

The court heard that Severa allegedly dropped the deceased’s iPhone 12 cellphone, which was later recovered by police officers attending the scene.

Investigations revealed conversations on the cellphone showing Severa luring Nandana to Warren Park D shortly before the murder.

Police investigations later led to Severa’s arrest. The court further heard that Severa led detectives to the recovery of Nandana’s body at the gravel pit where it had been concealed.

He also led police to the recovery of the deceased’s car keys, which had been hidden in a bin at his residence.
