WARRIORS CAMP STARTS SUNDAY . . . discord over US$500 match fees

Sports Reporter

THE Zifa Normalisation committee expects players called up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria to start joining camp this weekend amid indications some are not happy with the revision of match fees.

Zimpapers Sports understands Zifa halved the match fees from an initial US$1000 due to challenges with funding.

With 20 of the 28-member provisional squad based abroad, US$500 is considered a pittance and some of them have already voiced concern.

One senior player yesterday said:

“The committee is telling us that they’ve no money to give us that’s why they have decided to slash.

“But we feel it’s not fair on us as players because we expect them to do better than the previous leaders.”

Zifa NC chairman, Lincoln Mutasa said the issue of players’ earnings is a private matter and, as such, he could not comment.

“That is private information between the players and the association. I cannot be discussing such confidential information, pertaining to players’ salaries, with third parties,” said the veteran administrator.

Mutasa was however, willing to comment on plans for the trip.

“We expect the foreign’ players, especially those that do not have matches on Saturday to start coming on the 12th (Sunday). They will meet up with the rest of the squad in Rwanda where they will train for the match.”

Previous Zifa boards have clashed with the Warriors over bonuses and government, through the SRC has had to intervene on some of the occasions.
