Warriors Stars shine abroad ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

WITH the Warriors set to resume their 2026 Fifa World Cup Qualifiers Group C campaign, several foreign-based players were in action over the weekend.

Tawanda Maswanhise was on target for Motherwell on Saturday in their 2–2 draw against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership. The forward struck in first-half stoppage time to cancel out Kilmarnock’s 19th-minute opener.

In the English Premier League, Marshall Munetsi registered his first assist of the season in Wolves’ 3–2 defeat to Everton. The Warriors vice-captain set up Hwang Hee-chan’s opener in the 21st minute and completed the full match playing as a winger.

Tawanda Chirewa was not part of Wolves’ senior squad but featured for the U21s, where he also registered an assist in their 3–1 win over Blackburn Rovers U21, playing 72 minutes.

In League One, Marvelous Nakamba was again absent from Luton Town’s matchday squad in their 3–0 win over Burton. Despite not featuring this season, his availability for the Warriors has been confirmed.

Brendan Galloway was an unused substitute in Plymouth Argyle’s 4–0 defeat to Cardiff City, while Tivonge Rushesha, who recently received a late Warriors call-up, was not included in Reading’s squad for their clash with Port Vale.

In Italy, Jordan Zemura played the full match as his Udinese side secured a 2–1 away win over Inter Milan.
In Belgium, Bill Antonio came on as a late substitute and featured for 14 minutes in KV Mechelen’s 3–2 victory over La Louvière.

Meanwhile, Munashe Garananga was an unused substitute in FC Copenhagen’s 5–1 thrashing of Randers in the Danish Superliga.

Elsewhere in Europe, Tinotenda Kadewere played 20 minutes in Aris Thessaloniki’s 2–0 home defeat to Panetolikos in Greece, while in Finland, Prosper Padera started and played 63 minutes for SJK in their 1–1 draw with KuPS.

In the United States, Teenage Hadebe was an unused substitute for Cincinnati in their 1–0 loss to Philadelphia Union.

Down south, veteran goalkeeper Washington Arubi made three saves but conceded once as Marumo Gallants drew 1–1 with Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership. Striker Daniel Msendami, also featured for Gallants, lasting 88 minutes.

Second-choice Warriors goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, was in action for Magesi in their 1–1 draw against AmaZulu. He conceded to Warriors teammate Thando Ngwenya, who scored in the 17th minute.

At Mamelodi Sundowns, Divine Lunga came on as a late second-half substitute in their 1–0 win over Stellenbosch. —Sports Reporter / Online
