WITH a ton of events planned, this Saturday has all the makings of a fantastic day in the world of show business and fanfare. On that day, the inaugural Ultra Beer Festival will bring revellers to Queens Sports Club as the Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo comes to an end.
The South African choreographer and Gqom performer Bongekile Mildred Simelane, better known by her stage as Babes Wodumo, has never felt more youthful than she does right now. According to Babes Wodumo, who will play at the Ultra Beer Festival, going to Bulawayo makes her go back to her adolescence years.
“I’m super excited (to be coming to Bulawayo). I can’t wait to perform and see beautiful Zimbabwe. I feel like a little teenager going on a school trip. Nothing has changed. I’m still the same when I’m on stage. I give it my all. Hope everyone is ready to have fun with me while I pour my heart out on stage,” said the 29 year-old-artiste who has been subject to fake news about her death.
The Wololo hit-maker, who considers herself a foodie, will be arriving at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport today and she can’t wait to try the various cuisines Bulawayo has to offer and get the chance to take in its “beautiful view.”
When quizzed about her familiarity with Zimbabwean music and the possibility of working with local artistes, Babes responded that “anything is possible when it comes to music.”
Babes Wodumo will be flanked by other South African artistes in the form of Freddy Gwala and Platform One with Mzoe7, Voltz JT, DJ Sweeto, Deeper Mr Stripes, Slim T, Simunye Simunye, Lady P, Sasha Star, Qathoe, Khizolamaak, Distro Kid, and Mao Mazibisa-Nduzaa adding the much-needed local flair.
The performer said that fans should “wait and see” if her two-year-old son “Sponge” will be joining the travelling party for the concert.
The organisers of the show, Neafrica Productions, through their representative, Pray Moyo stated that everything is in place for the gig.
“We’re ready for the festival. All logistics and clearances have been finalised with the relevant authorities. The idea is to channel a vibe with events that are well-branded to attract audiences from afar.
“It is a fact that we consume more of South African content, however, we find it critical to merge our City of Kings artistes,” said Moyo. – @MbuleloMpofu
