Anyone who knew the late Babongile Sikhonjwa well would tell you about his inseparable bond with singer Sandra Ndebele.
Whether at events, meetings, or social gatherings, the two were rarely seen apart. They are particularly remembered for gracing red carpets in stunning traditional attire at events like the National Arts Merit Awards, turning heads and dazzling audiences across Harare.
In a heartfelt tribute to the late broadcaster and cultural icon, Sandra Ndebele wrote: “We worked together. We did this life thing together, my bro. We drove together! We strategised together.”

Whatever event Sandra hosted, be it an album launch or a live show, Sikhonjwa was always there to support her, and she did the same for him. Their friendship was a beautiful thing to witness, a rare bond, like that of a brother and sister.
The pair shared many traits that made their friendship special. Both had a deep love for Bulawayo and were always ready to support and promote fellow arts creatives. They were equally passionate about hosting and ensuring visitors experienced the city in its full vibrancy, taking time to show off its culture and talent.
Even outside of public events, they were known for their energy, camaraderie, and love for celebrating life, qualities that made them not just collaborators, but true friends in every sense.
