THE Bulawayo City Council has engaged people with disabilities as it seeks to ensure their needs are incorporated into the proposed US$457,88 million 2027 municipal budget.
The budget consultation meeting, being held at Large City Hall, is giving residents with physical, visual and hearing impairments an opportunity to contribute to the city’s spending priorities, particularly on improving access to public infrastructure and municipal services.
Participants called for disability-friendly designs in public clinics, schools, roads and pedestrian crossings to ensure that people with disabilities can access essential services and public facilities without barriers.
The proposed 2027 budget stands at US$457,88 million, comprising US$327,8 million for recurrent expenditure and US$130,08 million for capital projects.
The consultations form part of the local authority’s ward-based budget engagement programme, which seeks to gather residents’ views and incorporate their priorities into the city’s 2027 financial plan.
