THE installation of Chief Nomalanga Sigola has brought renewed hope, stability and confidence to the Esiphezini community in Umzingwane District, which had gone almost three years without a substantive traditional leader.

Chief Sigola, 47, was officially installed on Wednesday at a ceremony held at Sigola Primary School, taking over the Sigola chieftainship from her late father, Chief Zephania Sigola, who died on May 1, 2023.

In welcome remarks read on his behalf by Beitbridge Paramount Chief Tshitaudze, Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Albert Nguluvhe said the occasion marked an important milestone for the Sigola family and community.

“This marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Sigola chieftainship, where for approximately three years the people have not had a substantive chief,” said Minister Nguluvhe.

He said the installation would help restore stability and confidence in the community while ensuring that traditional leadership structures continued to play their role in promoting development and unity.

Chief Sigola becomes the eighth female traditional leader in Zimbabwe, joining Chief Sinqobile Mabhena of Umzingwane, Chief Ketso Mathe of Gwanda, Chief Hikwa of Bulilima, Chief Mvuthu Silibaziso Mlotshwa of Hwange, Regent Chief Mabhikwa Zanele Khumalo of Lupane, Chief Chimukoko of Mashonaland East and the late Chief Ndube Nonhlanhla Sibanda of Insiza.

The installation ceremony was attended by several traditional leaders, including Chief Mabhena, Chief Gwebu and Chief Mathe.
