THE late Lesedi Nkomo’s classmates at Midlands State University (MSU) have remembered her as a kind-hearted and loving young woman who was approachable and treated those around her with warmth.

Speaking at Luveve Cemetery in Bulawayo on Thursday, Lesedi’s friend and classmate, Ms Hellen Sibanda, shares her memories of the slain student, describing how she related to those around her.

Ms Sibanda was among the MSU classmates who travelled to Bulawayo to bid farewell to Lesedi, who was laid to rest at Luveve Cemetery on Thursday.

Lesedi, 25, was a fourth-year Psychology Honours student at MSU. She was allegedly shot dead at a boarding house in Senga, Gweru, on October 8, in a case involving her former husband, Godknows Muleya.

Muleya was later found dead at a guest lodge in Chiredzi on October 10, with a gunshot wound to the forehead. Police recovered a pistol, a magazine containing three rounds and a spent cartridge at the scene, while investigations were launched to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

The tragedy has left the couple’s young child without a mother.

On Wednesday, MSU’s Students’ Representative Council declared a day of mourning in Lesedi’s honour, as students remembered their slain colleague.

As family, friends and fellow students gathered to lay her to rest, Ms Sibanda’s tribute offered a glimpse into the person Lesedi was to those who knew her.
