SOUTH African music heavyweight DJ Tira has arrived in Zimbabwe ahead of his pre-Independence gig in Gwanda tonight.
The event will feature Harare-based chanter Hwinza and local outfit Zhezhingtons as supporting acts. A lineup of DJs, Mbostar, Timmzy T, Virus and Ayaxx, will take charge of the decks, promising a high-energy night for revellers.
Event organiser DJ Keitho said the show is designed to extend the festive spirit of Independence Day, particularly for young people in the town.
“We felt it was important to give the people of Gwanda a chance to celebrate Independence Day in a lively and memorable way. Many attended the Children’s Day festivities in Maphisa earlier, so this is our way of keeping the energy alive.
“It’s also a moment for the youth to come together, mix, mingle and connect with artists directly.”
He added that the event goes beyond entertainment, serving as a platform for inspiration and growth among emerging creatives.
“For the youth, this is more than just a party. It’s an opportunity to see what’s possible when artistes and communities unite. They’ll get the chance to interact with DJs, musicians and performers they admire, and even explore opportunities to collaborate or learn from them,” said DJ Keitho.
Beyond the music, the event also promotes unity and national pride. “Events like these remind us of the importance of our national days and the spirit of Ubuntu. They bring people together, build friendships and strengthen our sense of community. Through music, we’re not just celebrating independence, but the shared experiences that make us who we are as a nation,” DJ Keitho said.

The headlining act, DJ Tira, who urged people to attend the event in numbers, is no stranger to audiences in Matabeleland South, having previously delivered electrifying performances in Filabusi, Gwanda and surrounding areas.
“Every time he comes through, the energy is unmatched. Bringing him back creates a valuable platform for local artistes to share the stage with someone of his calibre.”

Upon his arrival at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in Bulawayo, DJ Tira had lunch at a vibrant braai spot in the city’s ghetto before proceeding to Gwanda. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
