On Saturday, multi-award-winning female house DJ and producer Zandile “Zandimaz” Mazithulela partnered with Vivanté to exclusively launch a skincare range at a restaurant in Bulawayo.

Vivanté, a cosmeceutical range from South Africa, has been recognised for its effectiveness in treating problematic skin types. DJ Zandimaz, a grateful recipient of its benefits, has now joined forces with the brand to introduce it to a wider audience.

Part of Zandimaz’s range includes antioxidants, scrubs, sleeping pills, dark spot removers, oily skin reducers, weight loss medication, and even an aftershave to help men soothe their skin post-shave.

Addressing attendees during the launch, the South Africa-based musician expressed excitement at unveiling her own skincare range.

“I’m super excited about the launch. It’s been something that I’ve been working on. This has literally been like my own baby. After trying different skincare products without any success, I had to shift gears, and that’s when Vivanté approached me, and we started working on this.

“Owning my own beauty range has been in the pipeline for the longest time, and finally seeing it come to life is so exciting and humbling at the same time,” she said.

To Zandimaz, looking and feeling good is the secret ingredient to success as a musician, making her decision to launch a skin care range all worthwhile.

Besides her owning her own beauty range, the idea emanated from her suffering from eczema. Eczema is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterised by dry, itchy, and scaly skin, redness and inflammation, and raised bumps.

The wheel-spinner grew up suffering from eczema and after trying different medical options, it did not work till she discovered Vivanté organic products which she said helped her tremendously.

She said her partnership with Vivanté extends beyond her launching a skin care range but rather, she is part-owner of the brand.

Zandimaz revealed that she has been collaborating with skincare experts for four years and played a key role in Vivanté’s product development, serving as the first black person on whom they tested their formulations.

In separate interviews, skincare enthusiasts shared their thoughts on how the launch could impact the industry. Musician and aspiring skincare entrepreneur Holy Stacey said she learnt a lot from interacting with other women, which will help her understand the skincare world better.

“As someone who has started her own skincare journey, I enjoyed being here and learning about the different products. This has helped me a lot, and I thank the organisers for inviting me,” she said.

Another attendee, who preferred to remain anonymous, said the event was an eye-opener.

“Though I don’t usually use a lot of skincare products, attending this launch has opened my mind to a new world, and who knows, maybe I might start using the products after all!”

Tanaka Makeba, another guest at the event, expressed optimism about Zandimaz’s skincare range helping her with eczema.

“As someone who suffers from eczema, I often use green bar soap and Vaseline body cream. After hearing Zandimaz speak so passionately about how Vivanté products have helped her eczema as well, I’m confident that, together with others who have eczema, we have found a solution to our problem,” she said.

Zandimaz’ mother, Naomi Mazithulela, praised her daughter’s dedication and determination in everything she pursues.

“As her mother, I truly appreciate what she has accomplished. From birth, I could see that she had exceptional talent and was a bright student, always outshining others.”

“She’s a very dedicated child who has faced many challenges, but we have seen the hand of God in her life, guiding her to triumph over difficult situations,” she said.

She humorously added that Zandimaz once “disappointed” her by choosing a career in music over law, despite having her tuition fully paid.

The event concluded with DJ Zandimaz, the Ngisemathandweni hit-maker, performing Bawo, paying tribute to God for always being there for her through thick and thin.

Notably, the launch was thoughtfully organised, and credit must go to Zandimaz’ manager, Charllote Sengu, who orchestrated an exclusive event with stunning aesthetics for all to enjoy. Known for her involvement with the Paperbag Africa public relations agency and curating the “I Wear My Culture ZW” fashion initiative, Sengu proved why she is one to watch. From the photo booth to the table decorations, a tremendous effort was put into making the launch a resounding success. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
