FC Platinum 1-1 Dynamos
Dynamos win 5-3 after a penalty shootout
HARARE giants Dynamos FC finally passed the FC Platinum test when they knocked them out of the Chibuku Super Cup contest in an exciting quarter-final tie played at Mandava Stadium yesterday.
So colourful was Mandava Stadium where hordes of local football fans enjoyed a game that was eventually decided through a penalty lottery.
FC Platinum, who had a subdued first half playing second fiddle to a marauding Dynamos, got a goal in the 66th minute courtesy of a Harrison Selemani strike.
It was not long that Keith Madera restored parity in the 76th minute after he got to an end of a Shaderck Nyahwa brilliant feed inside the 18-yard box.
With the match destined for the penalty shootout, Dynamos introduced their second choice goalkeeper Frank Kuchineyi for Prince Tarifemutsa.
In the penalty lottery, Kuchineyi did not disappoint as he denied veteran Innocent Mucheneka in FC Platinum ‘s third spot kick.
The miners had scored their penalties through former Hwange boys Gift Mbweti and Nomore Chinyerere. Bustling Perfect Chikwende also scored for Pure Platinum Play in a match in which Dynamos skipper Frank Makarati, Kevin Moyo, poster boy Denver Mukamba , substitute Elli ILunga and Emmanuel Ziocha found the target for the Glamour Boys.
Stand-in Dynamos head coach Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe was left feeling on top of the world.
“It’s always good to win cup matches. I’m happy that the boys did so well. We could have won the game in the first half but I think we were denied a penalty. I’m happy that we soldiered on and got a win,” said an ecstatic Chigowe.
His opposite number Norman Mapeza conceded defeat.
“It was a good fight from our team. Well done to the boys. We had a very bad first half but we came out fighting in the second half. It’s well done to Dynamos,” said Mapeza.
DeMbare were missing the services of their two key midfield players Tanaka Shandirwa and Donald Mudadi.
FC Platinum did not have Walter Musona and Brian Banda in a match that kept everyone on edges.
The four players were with the national team in Botswana.
In the previous two seasons Pure Platinum Play booted out DeMbare in the Chibuku Super Cup with Mucheneka the hero in last year’s edition
