NHLANHLA Dube says being the son of former Dynamos and Young Warriors goalkeeper Lucky Dube had an effect on his football career.
Speaking to Zimpapers Sports Hub at a memorial tournament held to celebrate the legend, who died on April 17, 1997, on Saturday, Nhlanhla said there was a lot of expectation on him.
Nhlanhla started off as a goalkeeper before later switching to midfield. Like his father, he did not like getting bruised and being dirty.
The former Highlanders midfielder said he was at times targeted by coaches because he was Lucky’s son.
Emerging from the Highlanders juniors, Lucky made a mark at Bulawayo Wanderers before joining Bata Power under Lovemore Nyabeze.
He did not stay long there as he was enticed by Dynamos to the capital to replace Japhet Mparutsa, who had left for Black Rhinos.
Dube won several titles with Dynamos until his return to Bulawayo to run his businesses in 1989.
Lucky had a brief stint with Highlanders on his return.
Lucky’s tombstone was unveiled on Saturday in a ceremony attended by his family and friends.
