EX-HIGHLANDERS Dutch coach Pieter De Jongh has thrown his full backing behind the Zimbabwe Warriors, who are set to face South Africa in a decisive Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B clash this evening.
The match kicks off at 6pm at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, with both teams locked in a fierce battle to secure a place in the next round of Africa’s premier football tournament.
In a video obtained by Zimpapers Sports Hub, De Jongh boldly declared his support for the Marvelous Nakamba-led Warriors.
“Hello football lovers of Zimbabwe, I have an important message from The Champ. The Champ supports the Warriors, of course. I also have a piece of advice for Kaitano Tembo—know your position,” said De Jongh.
He added, “Of course, there has been a lot of success for the Warriors against Bafana Bafana. You are meeting South Africa today; go for the three points. With a victory, we are qualifying. Also, a piece of advice from The Champ—don’t always be standing in front of the camera, sit on the bench. That is very important; you are not the head coach.”
With Egypt already qualified, this evening’s encounter is a must-win for both Zimbabwe and South Africa, while Angola will be hoping for a miracle against Egypt to keep their qualification hopes alive.
