THE Honourable Jacob Mudenda Sports Festival entered Day Two yesterday, with Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) board member David Simba commending the hosting of the event in rural communities.
Held in Dete, the multisport festival is promoting social cohesion, sports development and raising awareness on drug and substance abuse, while also reinforcing anti-poaching messages.

Day Two kicked off with a football semi-final between Makwika United of Hwange and Sables of Dete.
The tournament features eight men’s football teams and an equal number of netball sides.

Several notable sports administrators are attending the festival, including SRC board members Simba and Valentine Mudenda, Zifa Area Zones (Southern Region) unopposed candidate Christell Dube, former Zifa panel member Hardly Ndazi, Matabeleland North board member Busani Dube, Hwange coach and trainer Njabulo Dube, and veteran sports administrator James Makhaya.
“From an SRC perspective, we want to see more of such rural activities,” said Simba.
