ITSANANG Abu Basuthu has praised his former teammate Vulindlela Moyo, who died in Bulawayo on Sunday morning, for a positive role in his volleyball career.
Moyo was 58.

He had battled with a heart problem from the COVID era, which worsened last year.

Moyo is regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound volleyball outside hitters and won over two dozens medals in a career which started at Donkwedonkwe Secondary School in Matobo.

He, however, was to improve his game when he moved to Entumbane Secondary School, which played in the provincial league.

In 1989, he moved to Hamilton High School and joined the Vikings, who would later change to Highlanders Volleyball Club, where he teamed up with Abu Basuthu.

Abu Basuthu, who was an outside hitter, described their journey together in coach education, which resulted in both attaining Level Three diplomas under the International Volleyball Federation.

He said after their Level Two course in Lesotho, Moyo had insisted that they push for Level Three, which they attended in Sudan.

Moyo’s funeral service will be held at City Funeral Parlour on Tuesday afternoon.

He is expected to be buried at Donkwedonkwe in Matobo on Wednesday morning.

As outside hitters at Bulawayo Raiders playing alongside Gari Sibanda, Hudson Kaluwa, Inambawo Ndlovu, Bart Phiri, Musindo Ngwarati, Mailos Ncube, Taurayi Mlauzi, Edson Sibanda, Django Charlwood, Michael Rusenza and Sifiso Ndiweni, they win the Zimbabwe Open and all

Matabeleland Volleyball Association tournaments between 1996-2000.
Moyo was a player/coach.
