Construction of the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Vocational Training Centre (VTC) is gathering pace, with the facility set to begin full enrolment in September this year as preparations intensify ahead of the Independence Day celebrations to be held in Maphisa District.
A visit to the site in Kezi revealed that work is progressing steadily, with about 90 percent of Phase One already complete.
Phase One includes an administration block, classroom blocks and a perimeter wall, which has since been completed. A gatehouse is also under construction and is currently at 20 percent completion, with expectations that it will be finalised by April 18.
More structures are expected to be added to the facility as construction continues in subsequent phases.
Site Engineer Gift Masuku said internal roadworks covering approximately 1.8 kilometres are also underway within the 22-hectare site. He also outlined additional supporting infrastructure planned for the centre.
“A multipurpose hall, canteen, library, hostel, staff quarters, a clinic, a police post and Early Learning Centre is also part of the broader construction works that will be built here,” he said.
The vocational training centre is being constructed in honour of the late Vice President Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, who hailed from Kezi.
