Tonight, Stanley Hall in Makokoba will come alive with the premiere of Freedom Comes Dancing, a film that explores the transformative power of choreography within the community.

Directed by musician Hwabaraty (real name Japhet Mlauzi), this “Rawsoot Studios Film” centres around an orphaned teenager, Mbalenhle (played by Sasha Juliet Zulu), navigating an identity crisis and ultimately finding purpose and self-discovery in an unexpected place — a dance group.

The film, which features a stellar cast including Prince Zulu popular for his role as Snake on Amakorokoza, musician Finkie “Big Boss” Phiri, and Albert Z Nyoni, will showcase the talents of dancers from the Loxion Dance Crew and Jabula Arts.

The premiere of the hour-long production, scheduled to begin at 6pm, will be overseen by popular radio and television personality Cde Phil, featuring a keynote address from Bulawayo City Council’s Arts, Culture and Heritage Officer, Lady Tshawe.

Live performances by Jabulani Arts and Loxion Dance Crew, complemented by insights from film veteran Saimon “Mambazo” Phiri, will ensure a memorable premiere showcasing the city’s cinematic  vision. In an interview, the film’s executive producer, Vimbai Shoko highlighted the film’s exploration of art’s profound impact on social dynamics.

“Art is a form of self-expression, which ignites change. It documents and preserves our culture for current and future generations,” she said. The film, set to start streaming next week Thursday, is poised for critical acclaim, buoyed by the positive reception of its teaser in YouTube comments. — @MbuleloMpofu
