ZPC Hwange right-back Denis Ndlovu dreams of being part of the team that will break a 38-year-old jinx in the Zifa Southern Region League.
They are probably the oldest club in the league and have played consistently since the 1980s.
ZPC, who graduated from Nehanda FC to ESC and later Zesa Hwange, have for most of their existence played Division One football and ranked among the favourites with an impressive list of former players and coaches that have tried, but failed to take the team to the Premiership.
“I want to be part of the ZPC Hwange team to break the 38-year-old jinx of being in Division One and never promoted. I want to do it for my uncle Cleopas Dube, who played for the club and was not promoted,” said Ndlovu.
The hard-working 28-year-old player, who began his career at Hwange Juniors with the likes of Pritchard Mpelele, believes his coach Mebelo Njekwa, and manager will get it right this time.
He said there is unity and everyone in their camp believes this is the year to make things happen.
“My father played Premiership football for Hwange and Zimbabwe Saints. My uncle Cleopas Dube, who is with Chegutu Pirates, played for this very club and moved to Highlanders before spending over eight years in South Africa and Botswana. I want to do it for him by playing a role in taking the team to the Premiership.
“We are working hard. Coach Mebelo Njekwa has assembled a good team of hard workers and those who have always been with the club are working hard. Unity has been key to our six-match unbeaten run in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League.
“I want to be part of the dream; my wish is to have my name engraved in a list of those that take this club to the Premier League. No one will delete that achievement,” said Ndlovu.
His father Simeon was a workaholic in midfield for Hwange and Zimbabwe Saints in the 1990s.
Ndlovu has been in the books of Makomo, Hwange Juniors, Hwange seniors, Indlovu Iyanyathela and Mountain Climbers.
