NKANDEMBWE villagers in Hwange’s Ward 10 are facing potential health risks after being forced to share their only water source with livestock and wildlife.
The villagers rely on the same water source for drinking, cooking and other household needs, while domestic and wild animals also use it, raising concerns over possible contamination and the spread of waterborne diseases.
Ward 10 Councillor Lethu Simangani said efforts to provide the community with a reliable water source had been hampered by poor road infrastructure.
She said a drilling rig intended to sink a borehole in the area had failed to reach Nkandembwe because of the poor state of the road.
“There was an attempt to send a rig to drill a borehole for the villagers, but it failed to reach the area because there is no proper road leading to Nkandembwe,” said Cllr Simangani.
She said the lack of a reliable water source was exposing villagers to potential health risks and called for urgent intervention to improve both water access and the road network.
The situation highlights the challenges faced by communities in remote parts of Hwange, where poor infrastructure continues to hinder access to basic services such as safe and reliable water.
