THE Premier Soccer League will continue to hunt for more corporate sponsors for tournaments.
Farai Jere, the League’s chairman told Zimpapers Sports Hub that getting sponsorships for more tournaments is an ongoing thing. He said they have always been in the hunt as they want the PSL to stay an attractive league.
“We have always been looking forward to more sponsorship, we have never stopped looking for it,” said Jere. Looking for sponsorship is something we do every day, we have never stopped looking for it,” said Jere.
The League has the Castle Lager Premiership race, the Castle Lager Challenge Cup pitting league champions and Chibuku Supa Cup champions and the knockout Chibuku Supa Cup.
Long-back elite teams clashed in a number of tournaments, with a majority of them involving all teams such as the Chibuku Trophy, Nyorenyore, Tapitapi, BAT Rosebowl, Rothmans Shield and Castle/Zifa Cup whose winners qualified for the Confederations Cup.
Because of the effervescent effect tournaments have, many players made their names in those games.
Caps United were an unknown entity until the 1979 Chibuku Trophy and inspiring displays by Shaky Tauro, Stix M’tizwa and the late duo of Stanley Ndunduma and Joel Shambo, marked their entry on the national landscape.
Describing their long-standing relationship with football’s biggest supporter of the last 60 years as “bird in hand” Jere said they are happy with the support Delta Beverages has given them. He said the relationship is such that both parties are always exploring how best to service the game and derive more value either way.
Jere said every season, Delta Beverages increases its support to the game locally.
He said he is happy that the brewer sent senior management to their workshop held in Bulawayo on Friday and Saturday where the PSL brought all clubs together.
He said the sponsors contributed to the seminar and that the League was trying to get everyone together including promoted clubs to have an appreciation of operations and rules and regulations upon which all PSL activities are governed.
Jere said he has confidence in PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele. Under Ndebele, the League has run smoothly and attracted worldwide attention.
“We have trust in the capabilities of Kenny Ndebele being helped by the board,” said Jere.
