A TEENAGE girl from Nketa suburb in Bulawayo must be regretting why she used a footpath to her brother’s home after she was throttled and allegedly sexually attacked before she was robbed of US$255 cash and a cellphone.
A relative of the victim said the 17-year-old teenager boarded a Honda Fit at 6 thAvenue shortly after 7pm last week on Sunday and headed to Mpopoma suburb to visit her brother.
The relative said the girl disembarked from the car near Mpumelelo Primary School in Mpopoma suburb and walked towards her brother’s home. While she was walking two robbers armed with a knife and an iron bar confronted her and ordered her to stop.
“After that one of the robbers grabbed her by her throat and throttled her while ordering her not to scream. They searched her and took US$255 and a cellphone,” said the relative.

They were not done yet. After that one of the robbers tripped her causing her to tumble to the ground.
“They dragged her to a secluded place and raped her. They left her lying on the ground,” said the relative.
Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
“We would like to confirm the incident and would like to discourage community members from using footpaths as they are very risky. We are also appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of the two robbers,” said Insp Ncube.
