BULAWAYO Chiefs coach, Nilton Terroso is not looking too far ahead of his team’s Chibuku Super Cup first round clash against ZPC Kariba at Luveve Stadium this afternoon.
Chiefs defeated ZPC Kariba 2-1 at the same venue in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter last Sunday. Obriel Chirinda and Arthur Musiyiwa scored the goals which handed three points to Amakhosi Amahle.
Despite that victory, Terroso stated that his only concern is winning today’s encounter without looking too further ahead. He feels that they cannot underrate their opponents as he expects them to put up a better show this time around.
“This game the only thing we can concern ourselves is winning the game, in that case if we do, then we have eliminated the first round and move on to the second one.
I think if we think further ahead we going to make a huge mistake for two reasons, first off we can’t underestimate Kariba, what happened in the last game means absolutely nothing in this one, I expect it to be different even in that sense as well and on the other hand, it’s still very early, it’s only the first round for us, so we need to respect the opponent, we need to respect the competition in that sense as well,’’ said Terroso.
He feels that ZPC Kariba will play more purposeful football since it is all about elimination this time around with no points at stake.
“I think it will be completely different due to the context, it’s not points, it’s not about the table, its elimination, I don’t think there will be any need trying to let the game sort of just pan out or playing for a draw.
I think they will be possibly more aggressive or more direct in the sense of trying to go for a result,’’ he said.
Terroso is focusing on his team and is looking for improvements from last Sunday’s performance.
On morale in his camp, where there is said to be upheaval over remuneration, Terroso said “The morale is good, it helps when you work on the back of wins, our environment and the way that the players have worked has been excellent since day one, they always give everything that they are expected to.”
