Traditional music outfit Dziba Lemvula Ezomdabuko and rhumba legend Clement Magwaza left Bulawayo crowds yearning for more with their electrifying performances at the Palace Hotel Gardens on Saturday night.
Although the venue was not packed to capacity, the atmosphere was vibrant as Palace Hotel Entertainment wrapped up November in grand style.
As the clock neared midnight, Dziba Lemvula Ezomdabuko, led by Evias Bhebhe and Gogo Mankosi, took to the stage barefoot, signalling a night of deep spiritual connection. Opening their act with their hit track Dziba Lemvula, they immediately sent the crowd into a frenzy. Their set list included popular tracks like Deliwe, Bosso Yi Team Yezwe, Nga Gida Ngedwa Mankazani, and Salukazi Sezulu, which kept the audience captivated.
At one point, the group switched to traditional drums, muting the PA system, creating a raw and ancestral ambiance.
Their performance was so powerful that an attendee went into a spiritual trance (wavukelwa ngamadlozi) and was assisted by a group member using snuff to calm her.
By 1am, Clement Magwaza, affectionately known as Gwazo, took over the stage with his Macrey Sounds band. Celebrating two decades of musical prowess, Magwaza’s performance, supported by his wife and dancers, showcased unmatched energy and artistry.
The audiences’ favourite, Kokotsha Makokotsha, was requested multiple times, underscoring its popularity. Magwaza displayed his versatility by playing the drum for over an hour, keeping fans on their feet until the early morning hours.
Adding to the night’s entertainment, DJs Ayaxx and Tetso delivered a mix of genres, with hits like the Amapiano single Sdakiwe Sbali and Zimdancehall’s Kana Ndanyura by Killer T dominating the playlist.
As December’s festive season unfolds, the Palace Hotel promises more diverse shows, solidifying its status as a must-visit venue for music lovers. – @mthabisi_mthire
