Zimbabwe National Army Commander Lieutenant General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi has urged Zimbabweans to maintain peace and reject attempts to disrupt normal life, saying national development can only be achieved in a stable environment.
Speaking during the handover-takeover parade for the Bulawayo District command at Imbizo Barracks on Thursday, Lt Gen Tapfumaneyi said the army wanted citizens to go about their daily activities without interference.
“We want people to go to work peacefully. We want the shops to function. We want the borders to function. We want every aspect of Zimbabwean society to function without disruption. And in peace, we grow. We grow when there is peace,” he said.
He warned against what he described as attempts by some individuals to cause disorder for personal gain.
“We don’t want silly disruptions by adults who want to make a living out of disorder,” said Lt Gen Tapfumaneyi.
The ZNA Commander also congratulated both the outgoing and incoming Bulawayo District commanders, pledging the army headquarters’ continued support to enable them to execute their constitutional mandate.
“I will always continue to render to you all the necessary support to enable you to carry out your constitutional mandates as per my directives and instructions,” he said.
He concluded by thanking invited guests and the families who attended the ceremony at Imbizo Barracks.
