Zibagwe-Chirumhanzu Constituency has been hit by water challenges owing to poor rains received during the 2018-2019 summer cropping season.
So dire is the situation that some people are relying on unprotected water sources, while some travel as far as five kilometres to access clean water, leaving both humans and livestock in danger.
Zibagwe-Chirumhanzu National Assembly member Cde Prosper Machando called for immediate Government assistance through the drilling of boreholes.
“We are faced with a serious water problem in the constituency and it needs Government and other well-wishers’ intervention before the situation gets out of hand,” he said.
“Livestock and humans are faced with the same problem and unless we drill more boreholes, the problem might get out of hand.”
Cde Machando said while his efforts of drilling boreholes in some areas were successful, in others, the water table is far.
“We have been drilling boreholes in a bid to avert the water challenges and to date we have managed to sink about 30 boreholes in some areas,” he said.
