What can be done in the field?

Farmers should approach their respective Zinwa Catchment offices and enter into water abstraction agreements so that their water allocations can be reserved

Farmers should irrigate early in the morning and in the evening when water losses are low

Farmers should ensure that all leaks within the irrigation system are timely repaired

Farmers should also understand their crop water requirements during different stages of maturity.

Those intending to venture into irrigation for the first time should install water efficient irrigation systems such as drip irrigation

Irrigation canals should be lined to reduce evaporation.
