B-Metro Reporter

A BOAT capsized at Tugwi Mukosi Dam, claiming the lives of a young woman and a toddler.

Police in Ngundu are investigating the drowning incident in which Leona Zendekanyi (26) and Saint Munyaradzi (3) died on 28 January.

The boat, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, was carrying 10 people when it smashed against a hard object in the water.

The sudden impact is believed to have destabilised the boat, throwing passengers into the water. While some survived, the young woman and the three-year-old drowned.

Comm Nyathi urged boat operators and passengers to avoid overloading and to ensure proper safety equipment is used at all times.

Investigations into the exact cause of the mishap are ongoing.
